Case studies
Energy efficient stores and distribution centres
Poundland has upgraded its whole refrigeration fleet (700 units) with doors which has cut energy consumption by 80%. We are also using the fridge doors to communicate to our customers about energy savings. 100% of our existing stores are now using energy efficient LED lighting and all our new stores install LED lighting. In FY24, solar panels will be installed on our new UK DCs.

Reducing plastic packaging
We use our packaging policy and handbook to identify and eliminate all unnecessary or problematic packaging through design, innovations, and use of alternative resources. We also want to reduce weight and increase the recyclability of our packaging. To accelerate our efforts, Pepco joined Polish Plastic Pact in February of 2023 – part of global network Plastics Pact coordinated by Ellen Mac Arthur Foundation. Poundland has launched a new specification 100% recycled/recyclable ‘Bag for Life’
