Pepco has completed a major step towards its net-zero ambition; nearly all electricity used by Pepco’s stores and distribution centre in Spain comes from renewable sources, including solar and wind power.
As one of the key markets in Pepco’s European network, Spain now operates on 99.3% renewable electricity, marking a significant milestone in the Group’s ESG Strategy.
Since May 2024, Pepco has sourced renewable electricity through REGO‑bundled contracts supplied by Iberdrola, one of Spain’s leading energy providers. At the end of Q1 FY26, 239 of Pepco’s 241 stores in Spain were powered by renewable energy.
As the network continues to expand, newly opened stores are being connected to the same renewable energy contract, keeping Pepco on track to achieve full renewable electricity coverage in Spain
“Reducing our carbon emissions is one of our top priorities. Moving our Spanish operations to renewable electricity is a major step forward and shows how quickly meaningful change is possible in one of our Western European largest markets,” says Jorge Barrie, Country Manager of Pepco Spain, Portugal and Germany.
Supporting Pepco Group‘s ESG Strategy
The switch to renewable electricity in Spain directly supports Pepco’s Group ESG strategy which is built around three pillars: People, Value Chain and Customers.
Under the Value Chain pillar Pepco is focused on reducing CO₂ emissions across its operations and supply chain. Furthermore, the Group plans to audit 100% of its factories at least annually against its supplier factory audit plan.
The “People” pillar aims to strengthen diversity and internal development with a target of 40% of senior management positions held by women by 2030 and 70% internal development and promotion in operations.
The “Customers” pillar focuses on responsible sourcing and packaging in private label products. By 2030, Pepco aims to ensure that at least 30% of the cotton used in own-brand textile products is certified, and that 100% of own-brand packaging is reusable, recyclable, or compostable.
Social Impact
Pepco Group’s sustainability approach, “Where Growth Meets Care”, reflects the belief that growth and care go hand in hand. In addition to its environmental commitments and responsible product strategy, the Group places strong emphasis on social impact across its operations and value chain. This includes building a stable, skilled and safe workforce, fostering fair working conditions and engagement, and supporting local community initiatives, particularly those focused on disadvantaged young people.
