Updated: Aug 30, 2019

Rapid Expansion of PEPCO continues

European discount retail group, Pepkor Europe, owner of the PEPCO and Dealz brands in Europe and Poundland in the UK, has opened its first stores in Bulgaria. PEPCO, the group’s brand in Central Europe, opened two stores in Plovdiv, the country’s second-largest city, on 15 March. With this new presence in Bulgaria, Pekpor now operates in 15 European markets.

PEPCO plans to open more than 15 stores across Bulgaria in the next six months, including stores in the capital Sofia, and to increase this number to over 70 by the end of 2021.

PEPCO, Europe’s largest and fastest growing non-food retailer, has close to 1,600 shops located in 11 countries in Central and Eastern Europe, offering apparel for the whole family, household goods and toys at the lowest prices. Clothing represents around 60% of the product offering, with items for the home accounting for 40%.

Andy Bond, CEO Pepkor Europe, said: “PEPCO’s entry into Bulgaria shows once more the success of the PEPCO format, which has achieved outstanding growth in recent years, in sales, in store numbers and in new markets. Through PEPCO, Pepkor is present in Europe’s fastest growing retail markets and is a key element in our strategy for European expansion, which has also been reflected in the recent new openings of Dealz stores in Spain” said Andy Bond, CEO Pepkor Europe”.

PEPCO already operates in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia and Hungary. Over the next few months, further store openings are planned in other locations in Bulgaria, including in Sofia, Varna, Ruse, Dobrich, Pazardjik and Burgas.
